No-exam life insurance
Who gets accelerated underwriting, what it includes, and what happens if you don't qualify.
Many carriers offer accelerated underwriting: applicants in certain age ranges and amounts qualify for approval using application answers, pharmacy data, driving records and other sources instead of exams. Decisions often arrive within a day. Each quote shows whether an exam is needed, possible, or not expected.
What it changes
No exam does not skip underwriting. Answers get verified, and a policy issued with false information can be voided within two years. If the carrier's information check raises concerns, an exam or tests may still be requested; you decide then whether to proceed.
Who tends to qualify
Most commonly: under about 60, requesting amounts below each carrier's accelerated limit, with no significant health history and no tobacco use within the last year. Some carriers accept recent lab work from your doctor in place of an exam.
An exam is usually 20 to 30 minutes with a paramedical visitor at your Temple City home or office, free to you. For healthy applicants, exam results sometimes improve your rate class, so it is not always a negative.
